About the Powell Chiropractic Family
Dr. David Powell (Dr. Dave)
Hello! Welcome to the online home of our Woodland Park chiropractic family. I’d like to tell you the story of how I got into this line of work because I think you might recognize some of yourself in my story. In 1983, I had never considered seeing a Chiropractor. In fact, I didn’t even know what they did. I was a healthy, active young man that loved spending my free time as a gym-rat.
But one day, while lifting aggressively in the gym, I really injured my lower back. Suddenly, pain that I had never imagined – let alone experienced — filled every waking moment. What I now know as Sciatica shot down my right leg. I spent the next YEAR following the advice of various medical physicians, physical therapists and fellow athletes trying to heal this problem. Nothing was working to alleviate the pain and I had been told (based on my MRI findings) that my bulged disc was going to need surgery.
One day, while limping around the gym (I wasn’t about to quit doing what I could in the gym!), I was approached by an inquisitive man that wanted to know about my problem. He asked, “Have you ever been to a Chiropractor?” My response was, “A what?!” And so began my final attempt to “cure” my condition. I didn’t have much faith that this guy could help where “modern medicine” had failed, but I was out of options and felt I was too young to wear a scar for the rest of my life.
Six months later, the pain in my leg and back was virtually gone and my weight lifting was almost back to normal! Best of all, through the healing process I found my calling in life and decided that I needed to help people like I had been helped. My college major at the time was Biology, so it wasn’t a far leap into chiropractic work. I graduated from Ft. Lewis College in Durango with a B.S. in Biology and a pre-med minor. In 1989, I went on to receive my doctorate of chiropractic from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas Texas, where I graduated top of my class.
I am trained in a variety of different chiropractic techniques, which you can learn about on our services page. Since every person is unique and every situation is different, I am fully committed to finding the methods that provide the greatest healing for you, personally. As you take a look around our site, you’ll notice that we are more than just a chiropractor’s office – we are a holistic wellness center – that incorporates exercise, nutrition, a positive attitude and so much more.
Twenty-three years later, the rest is history! I look forward to another 23 years of service in Woodland Park – and to meeting you very soon!
Jeannie Patterson
Hello! My name is Jeannie Patterson. I’m the office manager, lead x-ray technician and head of the billing and insurance department. I spent 8 years working in two different chiropractic offices before finding my “forever home” with Dr. Dave! In August 2012, I’ll be celebrating my 10th year here.
I first became interested in chiropractic as a treatment for crippling migraines I suffered from ages 7-17. My first chiropractor took x-rays and identified a problem in my neck. After a year of therapy, my headaches stopped completely and I was sold for a lifetime!
What I like most about being a part of the Powell Chiropractic family is really getting to know people on an individual basis and exploring what I can do to help them get more out of life. So, please, ask me anything; I’m here full time and I’d love to help!
